With her family falling apart around her, Frankie is determined to find out the truth - even if it means losing Jake. What is the one thing you most deeply desire? Howard Baker says we all long for a single devotion. Yet most often, our lives are fragmented, torn between competing desires, demands, and responsibilities. As a way to answer our deep need, we throw ourselves into work or activities or addictions. But devotion to a job, to a possession, or even to a person is not worthy of the human heart, says Baker.
In The One True Thing, Howard Baker says that every human yearning at its core is a desire for God, and God is calling out to us through our daily scrambles to control life. The pursuit of God is the one true thing that simplifies and integrates all other things.
In this small book that addresses the largest of themes, the author uses great writers of the past and biblical stories to guide us through three stages of pursuing God: seeking, choosing, and ultimately valuing Him above all else. Ex-detective Jace Barnett's finely tuned instincts went into overdrive when he met his beautiful new neighbor with the fictitious past.
His attempts to uncover her true identity met a dead end every time. She was a tantalizing mystery—one that spelled trouble for them both.
It broke Cassidy McRae's heart to lie to the man who made her heart skip a beat from passion instead of fear.
Something about Jace told her that he would protect her with his life—if she could only trust him enough to be honest. But though the truth could set her free, it might also get them both killed…. Dustin Davis spent years wishing for a prince but kissing frog after slimy frog. When he sees Archer Kyriakides for the first time, Dusty thinks his luck has finally changed. Archer could be it. The One.
But their hot and cold romance leaves Dusty confused: why does it feel right one moment and wrong the next? It doesn't make sense-until the day Dusty meets Archer's identical twin, Asher, and realizes he's been seeing them both. Asher Kyriakides dreams of being a fashion photographer, but he's stuck with a job he hates and an irresponsible playboy brother whose habits drive him absolutely insane, especially when he finds out Archer is dating the cute little blond Asher can't seem to forget.
Torn between loyalty and desire, Asher does nothing but try to warn Dusty away.
See a Problem?
But when Archer finally goes too far, Dusty turns to Asher for comfort, and Asher knows he can't refuse. It isn't long before they realize they're falling fast, but more than one thing stands in their way, not the least of which is Archer, who isn't quite ready to stop being a thorn in his brother's side. If she comes clean, can she save Hannah? There is a story that God has been weaving since the fall of Eden. Like every great tale, it is a love story, set in the midst of destiny, war, ruin, and redemption. This tale is wrapped around one single plan that reflects God's intention to be Father over a house and to provide a bride for His Son. The plan has always involved one single strategy: finding people who are lost, alone, orphaned, and without God in the world and offering them grace, life, and an invitation to come be family with Him.
This invitation draws us into a shining destiny to bear the very glory and brilliance of God. But something has gone wrong along the way as the war began at Eden continues to rage against the people of God.
That leaves us asking a very important question: how do we find restoration back to the truth of our identity and destiny? One True Thing reminds of a history that is rarely taught. It points us back to our beginning and to the Father who set it all in place. It is the story of Israel, the house of God, and all who belong to that house--both those who are of Abraham's bloodline and those who have been grafted in by faith in Jesus.

She stayed with Bobby because she wanted her son to have a father, and because, in spite of everything, she loved him. Then one night, when she saw the look on her ten-year-old son's face, Fran finally made a choice - she ran for both their lives. Now she is starting over in a city far from home, far from Bobby.
She uses a name that isn't hers, watches over her son, and tries to forget. For the woman who now calls herself Beth, every day is a chance to heal, to put together the pieces of her shattered self. And every day she waits for Bobby to catch up with her. Bobby always said he would never let her go, and Fran Benedetto is certain of one thing: it is only a matter of time.
Broken in body and spirit, she secludes herself in the mystical wilderness of a Georgia island.
Can she find herself in the sweetness of old songs, old ways, and the gentle magic of the river people? This is one debut that you absolutely should not miss. Such is the power of Roslyn Byrne, who retreats to Manny's Island, Georgia, in search of herself, only to discover her great need of others. Tender and intriguing, often dazzling in its prose, this is a mature work of fiction worthy of the celebration of praise.

Een moeder van drie tieners geeft veel aandacht aan haar depressieve zoon, maar ziet niet dat de ex-vriend van haar dochter in nood is. In Kerry James Marshall's Rythm Mastrcomic strip, an urban superhero battles the forces of evil using a combination of futuristic and traditional African accoutrements. This graphic narrativization is a stylistic update of Marshall's best-known work, monumental paintings of African-American subjects based on the traditional genre of narrative history painting.
In One True Thing, the catalogue accompaniment to Marshall's first solo show in five years, the artist presents a multi-media range of new work that demonstrates the evolution of his ideas and his ongoing commitment to issues of construction and interpretation of meaning.
Neither Male Nor Female
The body of work Marshall is developing for the book and exhibition centers on the idea of ambiguity surrounding the representation of African Americans in our culture. Stemming in part from the Rythm Mastrcomic strip project first developed for the Carnegie International exhibition, the monumental paintings in this new body of work portray figures in the urban landscape of the South Side of Chicago, inspired by the tradition of old-master paintings, especially the townscapes of Canaletto.
Marshall is also creating several photographic series depicting urban settings along with a group of figurative works based on African tribal sculptures.
