It includes both hardware and software , but most often an NMS refers to the software used to manage a network. In small networks, such as a residential or home network, an NMS is not necessary. However, it is important for any large network, such as those found in enterprise configurations.
Server farms, data centers, and corporate networks may have hundreds or thousands of connected devices. It is important to have a central network monitoring system in place to manage the devices.
